Unter Filmmusic versteht man jene Musik, die für einen konkreten Film neu komponiert (Originalmusik) oder aus bereits vorhandener klassischer oder populärer Musik zusammengesetzt und mit diesem aufgeführt wird. Gelegentlich ist auch Musik zu einem Film improvisiert und technisch fixiert worden. Filmmusik soll die Stimmungs- und Gefühlsebene in einem Film und dessen Handlungsführung unterstützen. Synonym wird häufig auch der englische Begriff Soundtrack verwendet, der ursprünglich die Tonspur eines Tonfilms bezeichnet (so auch die deutsche wortwörtliche Übersetzung).
