Weltmusik oder World Music (Worldfusion) ist ein in den 1980er Jahren aufgekommener Begriff. Ursprünglich auf das von Peter Gabriel initiierte WOMAD-Festival und das Label Real World zurückgehend, bezeichnete der Begriff eigentlich den Crossover aus westlicher Populärmusik und traditionellen, nichtwestlichen Musikformen. Mit zunehmender Popularisierung des ?Genres? wurden allerdings vereinfachend auch oft eigenständige traditionelle Musikgenres unter diesem Begriff subsumiert, der somit auch als Synonym für ?Traditionelle außereuropäische Musik? gilt. In den vergangenen Jahren geriet der Begriff daher immer stärker in Kritik, unter anderem, weil er sich einer sehr eurozentristischen Sicht auf Musik bedient.
