Der Gothic Rock, häufig auch nur als Gothic bezeichnet, ist ein Stil der Rockmusik, der Ende der 1970er Jahre aus dem Post-Punk-Umfeld hervorging und in den 1980er und frühen 1990er Jahren innerhalb der Dark-Wave-Bewegung populär war. Aufgrund seiner zahlreichen Verwurzelungen im Punk-, Glam- und Psychedelic Rock sind die Ausdrucksformen mannigfaltig. Stilprägend für das Genre waren Bands wie Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure und die frühen The Sisters of Mercy.
