Independent (engl. ?unabhängig?), kurz Indie, ist eine Sammelbezeichnung für kreative Ausdrucksformen, die von einer gemeinsamen Do-it-yourself-Ideologie geprägt sind, obwohl sich die einzelnen Erscheinungen sehr unterscheiden können. Sie erstreckt sich in alle Bereiche der postmodernen Kunst und Popkultur, so vor allem auch der Musik, des Films, der Literatur, der Spiele oder der Mode und wird heute teilweise synonym zum Underground verwendet.
